Day Eleven: Fishy Day

Day Eleven:

7/17/18

Today was a pretty cool day and was also very hot. What we had planned today was to go to the fisheries and see what fish they have and to learn more about how they spawn and what work they are doing to help the fish population grow. They had also talked about the new invasive species called Northern Pike that was introduced illegally and is taking over the habitat of the native fish in the river. Pike are very invasive and they had started eating the fish that’re in the river and destroying the fish population.

After going to the fisheries, we went to the “The Cave,” this is what the locals call it. This is located Kalispel, WA. This place was grave site for a women who was crushed by a stone that had fallen off the wall. This cave was made of sand stone, this is also where women would come to sharpen they’re root digging sticks and to ensure the have a successful year gathering for their families. After the caves, we hit the powwow grounds to eat our lunches and enjoy seeing the buffalo heard. They are truly beautiful and powerful creatures. It was amazing.

After filling our food tanks, we headed out to the language class and learned how they started a language program to their ways of speaking don’t die. The man who spoke to us was very passionate about his work and was happy for the kids who are learning it. This wonderful man’s name is JR. He did give us his whole name. After learning their strategy on their plan to grow their language, we headed to the Camas Community Center (CCC) to swim in their indoor pool. Me and Priscilla had went to the locker room and found out that the CCC had a steam room. So I and Priscilla stayed in there for about 15-20 min. After that, we kind of just jumped in the pool. They had three pools. One small one for babies and little ones. Another for kids. Then they had a larger pool. It started off as me and Priscilla just swimming around then we found a small yellow ball and played ball tag with just ourselves. After a while I had invited Kyle and Xavier to play with us, and boy. They can swim fast.

Later on, Rudy, Omar, and Demaris came and played. This was such a fun day!
